A recent survey commissioned by the humanitarian organization Islamic Relief Worldwide asked members of several Westernized countries (UK, Germany, United States, Lebanon) their views on Refugees.

While most respondents agreed that the majority of refugees were innocent victims, they were less agreeable to accepting them into their countries. Many associated refugees with terrorism.

The Broadbent Institute recently ran a poll, asking Canadians their opinions on President Trump, Prime Minister Trudeau, immigration and income disparity, and other issues. The poll was conducted by Stratcom, which was held March 15-17 online. Over 2000 respondents.

Here are some of the results:

On Trump:

  • 1/2 of Canadians asked felt Trudeau is not dealing well with Trump
  • 77 % have negative views of Trump
  • 2/3 feel Trump is a liar
  • 75% are worried or pessimistic over the next 4 year term

On Trudeau


  • 49% feel that Trudeau is doing a good or excellent job

On Income inequality:


  • 4/5 feel that income inequality is growing in this country

On Immigration:

  • 69% support screening immigrants by "Canadian values" as proposed by Kellie Leitch

According to a new poll, released today by Mainstreet/Postmedia, Ottawa is considered the safest city in Canada. Toronto and Winnipeg among the most dangerous.

This poll draws attention to the issue of Perception vs. Reality.

According to Statistics Canada's Crime Severity Index (2015 data), Ottawa is the 3rd safest city; Toronto is the safest. In fact, Saskatoon has the highest crime rates.

It's interesting our perceptions. What influences them? Headlines, news stories?
